Lyrics

  1. Sad Ballad for Risk & Governance Training
  2. I saw the breach, and I jumped in to fight.
  3. Patched every port, workin’ all through the night.
  4. Locked down the server, turned off the shares,
  5. But I did not ask, and no one cares.
  6. I thought I was helpin’. I swear that I tried.
  7. But the biz-ness said: “Why’d produc-tiv-uh-tee die?”
  8. I blocked all the risks. I shut all the doors.
  9. But now the budg-it is gone — and they still want more.
  10. I did not think like a man-a-jer,
  11. I saw threats, not returns.
  12. I spoke in hacks and loss per day,
  13. But not in what the busi-ness earns.
  14. Yes — you do that task and it sucks,
  15. But the new soft-ware costs ten thou-sand bucks.
  16. And it's not about just what we block,
  17. It's about what keeps the business clock. ?
  18. I skipped the buy-in. I skipped the plan.
  19. Showed a slide deck — no one gave a damn.
  20. I did not ask, “What’s our goal this year?”
  21. I just assumed the risk was clear.
  22. They said: “Se-cur-i-tee is not our core,
  23. We sell, not fight a cyber war.”
  24. I should have mapped to ROI,
  25. Not just the risk that caught my eye.
  26. I did not think like a man-a-jer,
  27. I just locked every gate.
  28. But the board sees cost, and sales, and speed,
  29. Not the threat at the fire-wall’s gate.
  30. We se-cure to serve the mis-sion,
  31. Not to chase each vul-ner-a-bil-i-tee’s vision.
  32. You can lock down all the data tight,
  33. But if biz-ness stalls — that ain’t right. ?
  34. Ask first. Don’t just assume.
  35. Speak the lan-guage of the board-room.
  36. Map the threat to what they need.
  37. That’s how risk teams pro-ceed.
  38. Now I teach the ones who learn,
  39. That se-cur-i-tee must earn.
  40. Trust and buy-in, that's the start,
  41. Not just fear and tech-no-smart.
  42. You may know threats, controls, and code,
  43. But you must ask where the budg-it goes.
  44. If you skip the plan, and skip the brand,
  45. You'll fail to think like a man-a-jer… again. ?
