Lyrics

  1. DNS takes your favorite place,
  2. Turns it into an IP space.
  3. From a name to a numbered land,
  4. Cached in the halls of the server’s hand.
  5. Verse 1 – The Root:
  6. At the dawn, where the root servers stand,
  7. Thirteen sentinels guard the land.
  8. Spread worldwide through anycast streams,
  9. They point the way to your domain dreams.
  10. DNS takes your favorite place,
  11. Turns it into an IP space.
  12. From a name to a numbered land,
  13. Cached in the halls of the server’s hand.
  14. Verse 2 – The Top-Level Domain:
  15. The banners wave, .com, .org, .net,
  16. A choice of kingdoms, don’t forget.
  17. The journey deeper, the signs are clear,
  18. The second level is drawing near.
  19. DNS takes your favorite place,
  20. Turns it into an IP space.
  21. From a name to a numbered land,
  22. Cached in the halls of the server’s hand.
  23. Verse 3 – The Second-Level Domain:
  24. Now the tunnels lead you through,
  25. www or paths brand new.
  26. Each resolves to a hidden key,
  27. The final goal, your destiny.
  28. DNS takes your favorite place,
  29. Turns it into an IP space.
  30. From a name to a numbered land,
  31. Cached in the halls of the server’s hand.
  32. Verse 4 – The Resolution and Cache:
  33. At last, the host returns the prize,
  34. An IP shines before your eyes.
  35. The townsfolk cheer, the lock is tight,
  36. Cached in memory, safe for the night.
  37. But when the TTL runs dry,
  38. You must set forth, once more to try.
  39. DNS takes your favorite place,
  40. Turns it into an IP space.
  41. It takes the name so you’ll recall,
  42. And helps you find what you seek out on the public hall.
  43. DNS takes your favorite place,
  44. Turns it into an IP space.
  45. It takes the name so you’ll remember,
  46. To find your way on the public Internet forever.
  47. “From root to top, from second to host,
  48. DNS guides the path you trust most.
  49. It translates your words to numbers precise,
  50. So packets can journey through networks like dice.
  51. Remember this tale, the quest never ends,
  52. DNS is the map on which the whole world depends.”
  53. Remember this tale, the quest never ends,
  54. DNS is the map on which the whole world depends.”
